When I reach the age of 75--if I am still alive by then, that is--I will detach myself from all my social media accounts and no longer Post on them. I will not deactivate my accounts, but I will disable Commenting, Reacting, and Messaging. My Friends--the 500 from the original 5,000 I hope to have retained--will then be free to explore everything I ever Posted since Day 1, which was, roughly, in 2009.
I will still be Posting my paintings on my art blog, though, and will continue to encode and update my 40 volumes of my collected, literary works in cyberspace. People will just have to search for them.
Take note, this is something I am going to do. I'm not like other people who keep saying goodbye on Facebook just for their Friends to beg them to stay and tell them how wanted they are. The hermit will finally withdraw from the world. To everyone else he will stop aging at 75 and will have the equivalent of a peaceful, social death. In that sense he will have successfully authored the ending of his public life.
