Watched "The Thing With Feathers" and "Deleted Scenes" from _Grimm_. Nick and Juliette go on vacation in a mountainside house and witness strange things, a la Cornell Woolrich's _Rear Window_, in their neighbor's house. In the end, Juliette turns down a proposal of marriage from Nick.

For the first time we see Sergeant Wu eating a paper clip (or at least putting one in his mouth).

The May leaf falls off my planner.

Lunch at home with Angelique. Aubrey out with her high school friends.

Watched "Island of Dreams" from Grimm. The monster drug addict episode.

Love that Fedelino Spinario statue _Boy With Thorn_ in the opening shot. I have a small version of it made of bonded Carrara marble.

This is the second appearance of the Exotic Spice & Tea Shop. The owner gets killed, and Rosalee Calvert, his sister, arrives with her turquoise earrings and takes over.

Sergeant Wu's house is decorated with old movie posters.

The refrigerator repairman who gives Nick and Juliette a quilt, a cherry pie, and a basket his children wove is ten times cuter than the monster pig.

An enjoyable episode, but there are three or four subplots too many.
OMG Sony Channel no longer broadcasts in Asia.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sun is a golden basket of yellow frankincense.
Tony Perez's Art of War: Do not be dismayed that the sun shines on both you and your enemy, for, while it nourishes your garden, it gives your enemy a heat stroke.
No amount of prayer, no matter how simple or how grandiose, can change circumstances that the gods and goddesses themselves meant to be.
Watched "Plumed Serpent" from _Grimm_. A modern take on the knight-saves-damsel-in-distress-from-dragon story. Loved that fire dancer's copper house.

The image superimposed briefly on the title card is not a Death's head after all but the head of a hexenbiest.

There are two other ways of perceiving each episode in this series:

--That each episode is about the Confrontation of the Shadow, i.e. the beast in every man and in every woman, or

--That each episode is about men and women who were unable to confront their Shadows and thus became monsters.

Watched "Three Coins in a Fuchsbau" from Grimm. Love all those jewels in the jewelry shop and in its vault. In this episode a connection between the vesen and the Third Reich is suggested.

The Three Coins of Zakynthos remind me of my three taladros of Spiritum Wacsim and the effect they have on people.

In the photos: the one-of-a-kind brass prototype of the medallion; the stainless-steel version eventually released in a limited edition; a typical taladro; and (deliberately defocused) on the Left, Ang Lihim Na Taladro Ng Spiritum Wacsim, the version by deceased master Marcial Alejandro; and Right, Ang Ultimo Taladro Ng Spiritum Wacsim by G.C. (initials not real), still living. The Seals or Sellos are different in each one.

Mentioned nowhere in the episode, but I'm wondering whether "Zakynthos" is not a variant of "Hyacinth". According to Wikipedia, "In Greek mythologyHyacinth was a very beautiful Spartan prince and lover of the god Apollo. Hyacinth was also admired by the West wind Zephyrus, the North wind Boreas and also by a mortal man named Thamyris. But Hyacinth chose Apollo over the others." Apollo is the god of magic.

Bought four family-size bottles at D.'s store, then dropped by M.'s cafe, which, as I mentioned earlier, is now open in the daytime. Tried their BLTC sandwich with canned Pepsi. I like.

In the meantime our five cases of Lightwater arrived, and the men helped me carry them into our kitchen.
Watched "Last Grimm Standing" from Grimm. The monster Thunderdome episode.

This is the second time a subliminal, white smudge appears on the right side of the Grimm title card for a split second. When you look directly at it, it is merely a swirl of smoke. When you look at it from the corner of your eye it is a cloaked Death's head.
A hero to one group of people is not a hero to another group of people, that is why both groups resort to brainwashing their children as to who is a hero and who is not.
My younger son Chito visited. We went to the center and had lunch out.
Watched "Tarantella" from Grimm. I recall seeing this on TV before and thinking that it had a tired, Kolchak: Night Stalker feel to it.

End of May. End of the month of flowers.

But my spirit guide tells me that, for others, it will still be the year of deaths.
M.'s cafe is now open the whole day and at night, serving breakfast at 6:30 AM.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sun is a yellow noodle cart.
The reason a pack of cigarettes can cost between 400 PHP and 900 PHP in other countries (and alcohol even more) is because the currency there is in dollars, and so are the salaries of their residents.

In the Philippines, most of the smokers and drinkers are poor. Depriving them of their habits is like the Americans depriving the Balangiga residents of food (which they actually did), resulting in a revolt and a massacre.

Besides, we grow tobacco in the Philippines, and not all countries do.
There is much discussion over a gun ban in the U.S.A. because, while the media show us heavily-populated cities with schools where shootings happen, there are also a lot of citizens living in woody areas with next-door neighbors living miles away who believe they need guns to protect themselves.
Watched "Organ Grinder" from Grimm, a deconstruction of "Hansel and Gretel a.k.a. Gretchen" (Hansen and Gracie), complete with pukka shells instead of bread crumbs and the Gingerbread Witch who falls into a fire pit rather than an oven. This is a suspenseful episode, and could very well be a commentary on how hospitals can actually victimize their patients.

I'm all Grimmed out for the day, especially after watching tonight's episode of NCIS: New Orleans.
There are things you can't take with you, and there are things you can.

You can't take with you certificates, diplomas, curriculum vitae, awards, and trophies, because they are lifetime-specific.

You can take with you your wealth of experiences, your intelligence, and your wisdom.

You can take with you your loved ones, because they will most likely be reincarnated in your same karmic group. You can also take with you jewelry and beloved material items, because they will come back to you as antiques in your next lifetime. All these will gravitate toward you all over again as iron filings to a magnet.
Angelique and Aubrey arrived together; Angelique from college and Aubrey from university and a session at the family dentist's.

Looks like Aubrey will finally be rid of her braces.
Watched "Of Mouse and Man" and "Deleted Scenes" from Grimm. Another enjoyable episode. That junk shop reminded me so much of Cubao Shoe Expo. It had a lot of lamps too.

In the photo, my Grimm notebook cover.

Wednesday, May 29, 2019

Watched "Game Ogre" from Grimm. Another favorite. Those exquisite coffee mugs (second to the exquisite lamps) make their appearance for the first time, in Monroe's kitchen.

Also watched "Deleted Scenes" and was glad those scenes were deleted. Most of them foretold the Captain Sean Renard subplot, which to me, led to the eventual deterioration of the series.
Now watched "Extended Scenes" from Grimm's "Let Down Your Hair". I like the final version  better. It's tighter.
Watched "Let Down Your Hair" from _Grimm_, a deconstruction of "Rapunzel"by the Brothers Grimm. One of my favorites; the plot and the action are more complex than usual.

Love Monroe's Christmas village and toy train set.

Also love the tree house deconstructed from Rapunzel's castle.

And oh, Hank changes his earrings from time to time. Like me.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sun is a golden spider shell on the blue sand dune of sky.
Dinner at home with Angelique, Aubrey, J., and R. We tried two new dishes and a regular dish from M.'s cafe. We were all too lazy to go to the cafe, though, and so we had everything served in the dining room through the secret passage.

Everybody home.
Don't light your candle at both ends.

Don't burn out like a light bulb.

Don't die in action.

Enjoy AS MANY YEARS of retirement as you can. He who dies with the most number of years of retirement is not only the winner--he is also the happiest and the most fulfilled.
Caught the ending of The Palace again on RED. One of my favorite wuxias. I wish that I could find a DVD of it.
Watched "The Three Bad Wolves" from the Grimm series. This is the kind of episode I enjoy very much from Grimm because it was shot mostly in delicious interiors, with lamps and all. The houses are so cozy yet so unpretentious that they seem natural and real, as opposed to being production-designed.

Also watched "Deleted Scenes" from this episode and I completely agree that those scenes should have been deleted.

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Aubrey and R. arrived from their last day of final exams and lunch out.
Lunch at home alone. Then watched, from the Grimm series, "Lonelyhearts" (really about gayuma) and "Danse Macabre" (a seemingly reverse take on the legend of the Pied Pier of Hamelin Town, which is NOT a Grimm fairy tale). The quotations from the Grimm Brothers at the beginning of each episode are lame, insignificant, corny, and perplexing because they are all out of context. What really matters is that the series is a major metaphor of how we are surrounded by foreigners and how we all practice discrimination on one another.

In the photo, my Grimm keys.

If being a team player means that you have to spend your resources while everyone else does not, you are on the wrong team. Pack up and leave immediately.

Always be on a team in which all of the members have equal economic means.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sky is tented with white, Spanish lace.
It often happens that, while you dream of living in a chateau on a mountainside, your loved ones dream of living in a private resort by the sea.
Dinner at home with Aubrey. Then Angelique arrived from college and dinner out.

Now watching Charlie Chan at the Olympics on <<pop life>>.
M.'s cafe's new wall menu. I think I'll take the family there sometime this week.

Writing outdoors again.

And the chorus of cicadas sounded like hundreds of silver sleigh bells.

Tony Perez;'s Art of War: When people think they no longer need you, they begin to treat you shabbily. When they realize that they still do need you, they are always at a loss as to how to approach you.

Stay away from them as far as possible. Let yourself be their karma.
One-hour, afternoon nap.

In the meantime my granddaughters' renewed postal ID cards arrived.
Watched "Beeware" from _Grimm_. With the introduction and development of characters, an episode's story usually comes to a stop. I hardly saw Monroe here, and, as in the previous episodes, I felt that there was just too much kissing between Nick and Juliette.

Monday, May 27, 2019

If he likes dishing out sexually offensive zingers, it is possible that his doctor put him on anti-anxiety medication with that side effect.
Relishing Grimm deliberately slowly, like a big bar of dark chocolate.
Watched "Bears Will Be Bears" from Grimm. If your eyes are keen you would have caught that Ifugao tribal mask they included among the aboriginal bear masks in the opening sequence. This one's about a very primal rite of passage. Toward the end of this episode Aunt Marie Kessler dies.
Finished watching the collection of "Deleted Scenes" from the pilot episode of Grimm. Interesting, editing-wise.
Tomorrow is Aubrey's last day of final exams. As is the case with my granddaughters, after school exams they like to unwind by doing groceries for their tiny-house bedrooms and shopping. Aubrey wants to buy ingredients for dishes she intends to cook as well.
Lunch at home with Aubrey. We had deep-fried daing na bangus and young bamboo shoots (labong). I love labong so much. To me they are as exotic as shiitake mushrooms, and even a lot harder to find. I was in heaven after conducting a creative writing workshop for drug abusers in rehab in Quezon  Province, years ago. There was a bamboo forest (yes, forest a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, not grove) outside the quarters. Before I left for Metro Manila I was brought there to harvest as much labong as I liked, and I brought home a sackful (shared it with the Embassy driver, though). No, I didn't try flying through the treetops.
Aubrey arrived from her second day of final exams.
My youngest sister Sylvia sent me two complete DVD collections of the Grimm series from Sydney two or three years ago--a regular DVD set and a Blu-Ray set. Started watching the series this morning, beginning with the pilot episode which, of course, I'd seen on TV before. Love those lamps, the books, the props, and Aunt Marie's trailer.

Sylvia also sent me a reproduction of Aunt Marie's key, which I am showing here with MY key--the Saint Michael the Archangel locket containing a variety of mutyas, among them a mutya that enables the bearer to discern whether a person is into black magic.]

Happy Birthday to my KT sons Tanet, Niran, and Ukrit, who came into my life on this day in 2017!
First batch of my laundry dried last night and I am on my second batch this morning. When I'm preoccupied with a series of chores like this, it means that I'm gaining momentum to create another big painting.

Two cups very black barako.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sky is hung with white cotton hammocks.
Watched The Chinese Ring, a Charlie Chan mystery, on <<pop life>>'s Retro Pop series. Loved it despite the loopholes, the non-sequiturs, the inconsistencies, and the fake Chinese proverbs. It brought me back to my childhood, when my parents watched the program on B/W TV at night, O/A the time my youngest sister Sylvia and I watched Our Gang in the afternoon.
Just woke up from a one-hour, early evening nap. Glad it didn't rain. Half of my laundry is completely dry.

R. and Aubrey ordered food from outside for their dinner. Angelique waiting for J.; they are also ordering food from outside for their dinner.

If Earth is flat, why are all the other planets and their satellites round?
Do not dwell either on the circumstances of anyone's death or the vacuum they left behind. It would be like descending into a basement to explore its contents and not being able to find your way back out.

Live outside the basement. It is the real meaning of "moving on".
Did my turn in the washing machine. Two years back I avoided laundering my everyday T-shirts by keeping them in a big hamper then just buying more and more of them. After all they were readily available in three different stores and there would always be at least three I couldn't resist buying. That's how I ended up with hundreds of them, but the ones I get tired of make good oil painting rags anyway.

Aubrey now back home from her first day of exam finals. When the granddaughters are free from school the upper floor will be bustling again.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sun is a golden castle in the sky.
Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey, after which we all retired to our respective rooms.

Still cold and drizzly outside, though the worst of the rain has passed.
It is the hermit who can truly observe time and its passage, for he has no distractions that prevent him from doing so.
The farthest distance from a miserable death is living life and enjoying it.
Actually we are able to take our revenge even after our death, but, often, on the astral plane, we choose not to.
A lover is always a hindrance to an artist's progress, unless he is ten times richer than the artist and willing to sponsor the artist's projects.
Pride closes the widest doors.
The scavenger finds treasures, but only after diving through much dirt and grit.
Writing flows copiously through my pen whenever I have a lit candle nearby.
No matter what you choose to show, people will see only what they want to see.
The tragedy of all high-profile autocrats is that, like all other human beings, they just fade away.
If the objective of the sin tax is to fund universal health care AND reduce the number of smokers and drinkers, what happens when everyone stops smoking and drinking altogether? Where will the funds for universal health care come from?
The goddess of the storm is my mother.

The sky above Cubao turns yellow. We all prayed for rain, and now we are getting it.

Lunch at home with Angelique, Aubrey, and J.

Spent some time on the studio porch.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sky is a giant slice of agate.
And so I gave the woman some business. I like Indian mangoes anyway--I eat them like green apples. They also remind me of the pickled vegetables Judge Dee takes with his meals.

More compound commerce.

The mangoes just won't go away.

This mirror is not for me to look at myself in but to see the boulevard behind me and whoever is coming in through the main gate.

The worst battles on Planet Earth are those that are waged between and among religions.
Every religion will support you, but only to a certain extent. The rest of the way you need to make use of your own intelligence and common sense which, you will be surprised to discover, could very well be superior to those of your religious elders.

That is why religious elders delight in having followers who do not think for themselves.
Magic is never non-existent, for it is a level of reality that is always parallel to other realities.
To find out which part of your garden is occupied by enchanted residents, go out at night when everyone else is asleep and watch for a glow.
Never think of your life as hell. That you were born into this world was only your first, big blessing, and know that there will always be many more.
Keep your magical systems pure and untainted.
Though they are astral beings, tikbalangs always enter through open windows at night.
A cup of coffee will stimulate you, but a cup of tea will relax your nerves.
A ragged ecobag is a disgusting sight, so use it to throw your trash in.
Never hurry children to grow up.
Always be alert. When someone dies, other people will attempt to take some money from the bereaved.
Creativity includes salvaging unused items and finally putting them to maximum use.
Go with the flow, but watch out for the first opportunity in which you can go successfully against it.
J. arrived. We all had snacks bought at a hawker's stand.
Writing on the studio porch. I recall that, when Aubrey was a baby, she would catch me writing in my journal, insist on sitting on my lap, take my pen, and make squiggles on the sheet of paper I was writing on. Ivy always tried to prevent her from doing this, thinking that Aubrey was ruining my work, but I let Aubrey do it. I was fascinated seeing a baby's squiggles superimposed on my writing.

Baby Angelique's favorite pastime, on the other hand, was snatching my reading glasses away and, in her attempts to fold them, always managed to break the handles off.

My reply:

Hello _______!

The same thing occurred in my dad's life when he was still alive. He had wooden shelves on brackets above his bed. Every night he would hear a loud rap on the lowest shelf. It spooked him at first but he learned to continue living with this and even anticipate it.

Once, when my dad was away, my sons Nelson and Chito, their cousin Jun, and I camped out in my dad's bedroom to find out what it was all about. Sure enough, we heard the rap toward midnight. It was really loud, as though someone took a hammer and dealt a blow on the lowest shelf, and it sounded like a gunshot. But, that was all. Nothing untoward followed. After my father's demise years later, though, I heard the same rapping on the wall of my captain's cabin bedroom.

The rapping is caused by a tikbalang. Tikbalangs are usually playful and facetious. When taken on as allies, however, they help you achieve great success in life.

As a general rule tikbalangs manifest in the lives of men only. They represent the Shadow in every man's life. In your case, I suspect that a female tikbalang might be trying to be friendly with you. Place a bowl of earth, coal ashes, and a cigar on a side table or small altar. This is an acknowledgement of her presence, and your fear will go away.

Don't worry--you are not reenacting a scene from _Insidious Chapter 3_.

Slept ten hours last night.
Good noon, Cubao!

The sky is an infinity pool waiting to be filled.
Compound commerce

It is easy to focus, but it is not easy, if impossible, to concentrate. The former is an attempt to harness the will of the mind and the heart, the latter often an attempt to harness an unwilling mind and an unwilling heart.

If I could completely open my bedroom to Nature I would do so, except that the human beings around me would not be able to resist looking in.

The room I stayed in that was like this was in Fivelements Hotel in Ubud, Bali, which was so cleverly designed that the bedroom, bathroom, and toilet were exposed to Nature but in such a way that no one could look in from any angle.
Friday, Friday

How I always looked forward to Friday before I retired. Now, everyday is Friday to me.
A rainy afternoon on the studio porch. Two mugs of hot, oolong tea. Lit the candles and joss sticks. Lit two tea lights in the portable firebox at my feet, under the writing desk. MauMau takes refuge on the other side of the grilles; I have observed that cats like fireplaces, whether they are portable or permanent.

Sometimes I wish that time would stop and that I could continue doing what I am doing forever.

Watching the rain through the doors and the windows the way I did when I was a child.
Choose only a job that will give you a substantial annuity or pension upon your retirement. Otherwise you will forever be constrained to work through your dying day and perhaps even pretend that that is how you want it, constantly prove your worth, continually check your marketability, remain in the headlines to maintain your popularity, push your PR skills across the borders of hypocrisy, and take vacations not when you want to but only when you are able to.

You will also be compelled to keep updating your curriculum vitae--something I stopped doing in 2015, when I retired.

Worse, you will always be a slave to time and to other people who will be most delighted to have control over you.

(Reflection over a leisurely, two-hour lunch and an equally leisurely, tall coffee.)
Lunch at home alone. Angelique in college and Aubrey, done with her P.E. classes for the semester, resting upstairs.

Outside, the clouds are doing their best to hold in the rain, like children holding in wonderful, exciting secrets. The air is still.

A tall coffee in the dining room.
Nature respects well-kept homes, as She respects the well-kept nests of other creatures.
Good morning, Cubao!

The sky is holding a festival of white kites.
Done with my Thursday night dose of NCIS: New Orleans.

Tomorrow is Friday again. I can't believe how time zips by, but Angelique says this week has been very slow for her.
Dinner at home with Angelique. Aubrey went to bed early.

Brought a plateful of food to the compound security guard.

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Lunch at home alone. Angelique in college, and Aubrey and R. left early on so as not to be late for class at university.
If your prayers as a religious person did nothing for you, neither will your magic, for faith, magic, and your karma dance intertwined like the Three Graces.

It is quite ridiculous to open someone's Story only to have it vanish from the screen in seconds. I just opened someone's Story, a poem, and I didn't get past the second line.

One of Story's horror stories.
It matters not whether you live in a mansion or a hovel. It is the personal brilliance of the residents that always counts.
Two cups very black barako.

Aubrey and R. had breakfast in the dining room.

Waiting for an alkaline water delivery.
Good morning, Cubao!

The clouds are white mobiles hanging from the sky.
Dinner at home with Angelique, Aubrey, and R.

A chilly night. Lit two oil lamps in the foyer.
On the studio porch again. Lit the candles and the oil lamp and turned on the reading lamp.

When the wind blows, the dragon tree heaves as though it were taking deep breaths.

Four children are playing some sort of game of catch with a flip-flop on the driveway. I recall when Nelson and Chito were growing up. Our house had a pool table, a dart board, Nelson's air pistol, a Bullworker, and other things that no longer exist now that I have two granddaughters. A house changes not only with the seasons but with the children who live in it. Angelique and Aubrey think that we have too many antiques. I pledged that the upper floor would be predominantly modern when I get down to refurbishing it.

Distant thunder. I pray that the rain will be gentle tonight.
Aubrey and R. arrived from university.

Thinking of sweeping the driveway despite the glowering skies.
Back from jalan-jalan at the center. Paid our water and cable bills, then checked out some kitchen stuff.

Looked at available flower varieties in Farmers Garden on my way home.

Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Lunch at home alone; granddaughters in school.

Must go jalan-jalan in a while to pay our water bill.
Three-hour, morning nap.
Robin disapproves of people who collect empty perfume bottles, but I'm becoming attached to these glass vessels of Elizabeth Taylor's Passion and Elizabeth Taylor's Passion for Men. Both were given me by our eldest sister Lourdes during her trips from Sydney to Manila.

First, I am an Elizabeth Taylor fan. Second, the company is phasing out and the bottles are fast becoming collectibles. Third, they are absolutely and deliciously art deco. And, fourth, they look like props from my favorite Hercule Poirot series starring David Suchet.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sky is a glass aquarium filled with fairy fish.
Heavy downpour in Cubao during dinner time.

Brought a plateful of food to the compound security guard after the rain abated.

Met J.P. in the driveway; he modeled for Christ Calming The Storm for me. He seems to have slimmed down since I last saw him. He said that he temporarily stopped going to the gym.

Now in my bedroom after a hot shower.
Back from jalan-jalan at the center.

Had a banana split on the way home.

And now I think I'll have a cup of tea on the studio porch.
In the meantime, Aubrey arrived from university.

This crystal ball laser-etched with an image of the Milky Way aids in opening your third eye, in a manner of speaking. Hold it against a black background between both hands and slowly rotate the ball, gazing into it as though gazing into space and not focusing either on the ball or the image within.

Stop rotating the ball as soon as the arrangement of laser-etched grains suggests a concrete image. Then suspend your mind like a hung computer screen and allow associations to come in.

You will know you are very successful when the image begins to move and take apparent life within the ball.

Eventually, try scrying on a ball with no laser etchings and see if your psychic intuition alone can summon images within the ball.

Granddaughters in school.

Three-hour morning nap, then took a slow, leisurely, and protracted lunch.

Two deliveries are scheduled today, but nothing has arrived so far.

Spiritum Wacsim

This Posting is meant only for men who have interest in Spiritum Wacsim. Do not read on if you are not one of them.

TALADRO NG SPIRITUM WACSIM
AT MGA ORACION

Some personal notes on this item:

1. I observed, from 2009 to the present day, that this is a masculinist taladro and that Spiritum Wacsim does not respond to females.

2. There is an anti-YHWH version of the oraciones meant to intimidate insincere practitioners. Simply ignore it.

3. Spiritum Wacsim is best accepted as the Wild Man within every man. To understand this archetype, read the fairy tale “Iron Hans (a.k.a. Iron John)” by the Brothers Grimm.

4. If, in performing this ritual, you experience excessive masculine urges within you--such as hot-headedness and the tendency to pick fights-- immediately wear on your person a female talisman. Alternatively, engage in interests or activities that are considered feminine until a balance in your psyche is achieved.

5. The words  “BOSEM TASAI VINANO ROTONOBI VISA ASIAS” are elemental names for the seven plagues of Egypt mentioned in the Old Testament.

6. The elemental passages following “MITAM MATAM MICAM” are said to be “salitang-uwak” or “crow-language” because of the sounds they elicit.

7. The magic number of Spiritum Wacsim is 7, corresponding both to the god of iron and the goddess of the sea.

Re-Posting this from December 3, 2018 in _The Oracle of Cubao_:

My interpretation of Spiritum Wacsim is that, from the point of view of Seven Archangels Magic in Philippine magic, he is the Archangel Raphael. That is the reason he is depicted in the s
ea with the giant fish Venena. His name, however, harnesses the powers of all the other six archangels:

W = Waraquiel (Baraquiel)
A = Ariel
C = Cabriel
S = Seatiel/Seaphiel
I = Iuriel/Jegudiel/Jophiel
M = Michael
