Toward midnight every night since the beginning of Hungry Ghosts Month, we've been hearing construction work--specifically hammering--ongoing in some part of the neighborhood. The first few nights I thought the sound was coming from the former Manayon lot on EDSA, where intermittent work is being done in preparation for a high-rise building; other nights I was almost sure the sound was coming from Panopio Compound, across the street, where a PNP hospital is being erected. The sound, however, is not industrial in nature: the hammering is from a lone instrument on wood. It stops every now and then, as though a weary carpenter desperately repairing a house frequently needs to rest. All hammering ceases at exactly 4:30 AM.
One of these nights I shall go up to the roof deck and determine where, exactly, the hammering sound is coming from.
