"Hi Tony! Am so glad FB keeps us in touch. Want to share my latest 'dreams'......quite a few times recently, I have been woken up by a knock on my bedroom door. Several times, I got up to see who it was. No one. My interpretation is that as I’m thinking of retiring this year, and I’m a bit torn about the decision, my sub-conscious is telling me new opportunities are knocking! What do you think?"
My reply:
Hello ______________!
Retirement was a yearning and a desire that you expressed last year, and I reminded you that your job has a lot of perks you might be unwilling to forego.
Having said that, since it's been this long and you're still being tempted to retire, I believe that you should go ahead with your plan to do so this year. While you'll be shortening or curtailing your years of employment, you'll actually be increasing the number of years that you'll be enjoying retirement. Retirement, after all, is not a state to be dreaded; it is a form of heaven on earth. There is nothing like freedom from supervisors, freedom from colleagues, and freedom from expectations. You'll actually be promoting yourself to being someone who can do whatever she wants with her money and her time, without caring what others think or say.
