Aside from operating the cafe that he is renting from us at the front of our house, M. is actually area manager for two restaurant chains in Metro Manila. He is also in charge of the construction and demolition of new branches; he is currently supervising the demolition of two branches, one in MegaMall, the other in North EDSA.

For the past evenings, our cafe has been full of batches of waiters who lost their jobs in MegaMall. M. has been tasked to conduct their egress debriefing. Many of them are from restaurants that have shut down, and quite a few of them are Food Court waiters.

Such a shame that so many Filipino waiters are losing their jobs. All those fancy eateries in this developing country now seem like such a bad idea after all, because the only places they really thrive in are in First World countries.
