Tried the neighborhood jalu-jalo but I wasn't satisfied with it, as I am never satisfied with jalu-jalo anywhere today. It never tastes like the jalu-jalo I used to have when I was a kid. I know that it isn't the ingredients, for I've tried it with the classic ingredients and it still doesn't taste right. I suspect it's the ice. When I was a kid, sari-sari store ice was dirty ice that came in blocks from the ice plant, like the ice plant in Bruce Lee's The Big Boss. Everyone took it and no one got sick, but, of course, that was more than half a century ago.
