EDSA was Highway 54 in the 50s. To give you an idea how free of devils' traffic it was during those years, when I was five years old a length of the highway spanning our street, P. Tuazon Boulevard (then Central Boulevard), was blocked off to serve as the venue for the (then annual) Soap Box Derby. I was in Prep at the time and was so thrilled with the event that I attempted to make my own soap box vehicle out of junk materials in our garage.
