The more you bash a work of art, the more it will be "Salon des Refusees" art. Remember that almost everyone bashed Manet's Olympia, Sargent's Madame X, Matisse's Portrait of Madame Matisse (Portrait with Green Line), and Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, calling them horrid, obscene, distasteful, not-art, and jokes. They cost millions now.
Indeed, sometimes all it takes is a well-meaning Gertrude Stein to set you up in a gallery.
