Lunch at home with Angelique; Aubrey still resting upstairs.

My sisters Lourdes and Remi sent additional candles to light on our family altar and columbary on All Souls Day. They also sent me money to buy flowers, but I'll buy a set of fabric flowers later and then fresh flowers on the day itself.

Fantasy is a wide, sweeping brush stroke.

Reality is in the concrete details.

Good morning, Cubao!

Search for the giant's castle atop the clouds.

Good night, Cubao!

Nocturnal dreams will lose their way within the complex labyrinths of the moon.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then off to bed with Bartleby the Scrivener.

I recall this story, not in the original print but as dramatized for a series of famous American short stories for USG TV. I was working at USICA (United States International Communication Agency), which later changed to USIS (United States Information Service), and then to the Public Affairs Section of the US Department of State. One of my tasks at the time was to invite English and Lit teachers from different universities and encourage them to schedule screenings for their classes at Thomas Jefferson Cultural Center. A tame task compared to everything they would make me do years and years later.

Ensure that all rooms in your house are adequately ventilated.

An adept mage should be able to produce fire, if not intense heat, from the centers of his palms, and control water by the synchronized movement of his eyes, his eyebrows, and his fingers.

Sharing power between two arrogant persons is an impossibility, as evidenced by two arrogant broadcasters on the same program.

Anything in life that does not allow us unusual, personal choices is evil.

Walls of concrete and glass do not absorb and record sad and bitter memories.

Poverty uglifies men and women, if not in their looks, in their speech, and in their movements.

You will be more able to tolerate adults if you are able to see them as little children.

There are many things that should remain on the level of fantasy, because they are most satisfying there.

It is unwise to have pets if you live alone and must go to work everyday; know that it is a bad bargain for the pets. If you must have pets, do so after you retire and are often at home.

Back from the bank with Angelique. Toto drove for us.

A warm, sunny day in Cubao.

Lunch at home with Angelique, Aubrey, and Roi.

Going to the bank with Angelique in a while.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sun glides across the sky on a golden skateboard.

Good night, Cubao!

Gnomes come in many sizes, from inches tall upward.

Michael is back in Cubao.

Asked Michael to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then off to bed with Billy Budd.

Dinner at home alone; Angelique took an early dinner because she has a 7:30 PM electronic class; Aubrey and Roi ordered Chinese food and are taking their dinner later.

Monday, September 28, 2020

Done saving receipts at the neighborhood grocery to purchase a set of these glass containers. They're airtight, with vents for microwaving. Great for storing leftovers. I use the smallest size to set aside fresh cayenne pepper, which then keeps for weeks!

Thought of buying more but decided these are all we need.

Goodbye, plastic boxes!

Lunch at home alone; grandchildren still resting upstairs.

Finished reading The Moonstone last night, through the wee hours of the night. A satisfying literary adventure. Characters, their relationships, plots, and subplots are as complex as in The Woman in White. Four characters died--strangely, four characters also died in The Woman in White. As in The Woman in White, though, I felt that the ending was rushed and over-consciously written to tie things up.

I strongly agree with critics that Wilkie Collins was the inventor of the detective story. The same critics indicate that his later novels "deteriorated", and so Moonstone and Woman are his two legacies. I wouldn't mind reading those later novels, though, except that they are not available in bookstores.

Roi arrived.

Aubrey cooked a late breakfast for everyone.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sky fairies spin white, cotton-candy clouds.

Good night, Cubao!

Drinking water from a glass bottle exposed to moonlight will make one more intuitive.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening  shower, and then off to bed with Wilkie Collins. Currently reading the account of Franklin Blake.

Your Messenger message:

"Good afternoon Sir, I've been hesitant if I'll send a message or not but I really want to ask your opinion. Last year till this year brings me nothing but bad news and misfortunes

"
🙁
I did my best to make my days better but I think I'm really unlucky. My mind is a mess and I feel so upset I'm sorry I cannot explain my thoughts clearly po. Please give me some advice on how to attract positive energy.

"Still believe I can make my dreams come true. Someday Sir."

My reply:

Hello _______!

You need to consult an older psychologist of your own gender.
Your Messenger message:

"Sir, my family used to call it 'buddha', at my age of 59, i've seen it kept inside our antique closet. According to my mom. It was found somewhere along the road in our vicinity. I was intrigued by its feature, why it was called buddha, does it bring goodluck to the handler? Etc.
"Sir, could you share any information about it?
"Thank you."

My reply:

Hello ______!

I scanned the two photos. Your family calls the item "Buddha" because the figure is male, rotund, bald, and evidently Chinese. However, the item is decorative rather than religious in nature. It is part of a set of other figurines; a little boy took this one from the set, played with it, and dropped it on the roadside.

There is nothing talismanic about this item. That doesn't mean, however, that you should throw it away. Keep it, for it must have come to your family for a reason. At the very least, like the figurines in the fairy tale "The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep", it is glad to take safe refuge in your home.

Good noon, Cubao!

The sun slices the day into pie-shaped wedges.

Good night, Cubao!

Night travelers will come upon and stop at gnome taverns by the roadside.

An early lunch at home alone; grandchildren still resting upstairs.

Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival/Moon Festival.

The best mooncakes are those brought to your house with love.

Now working on third and last segment of a screenplay.

Thursday, September 24, 2020

An early lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey attending online classes upstairs.

The water service man came and drained and cleaned our hot and cold water dispense. Now our dispenser is spanking clean inside and out!

Good morning, Cubao!

The day plods on like a traveler with a serious mission.

Good night, Cubao!

A fairy prince or princess who falls in love with you will frequently send gemstones, real or paste, your way.

Dinner at home with Angelique; Aubrey took her dinner earlier while I was watching the news.

Asked Jerome to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

My sister Alice sends a box of candles she ordered online, to light on our family altar on All Souls Day.

So nice of Christine to send this to me:

'Salamat, Tony.'

I remember that afternoon of book-signing, but I never knew that Rene wrote this about me.

Whenever you beg to be spared from a misfortune, someone else in this world will have to suffer that misfortune, whether you know that person or not.

Whenever you suffer a misfortune, someone else in this world will be spared from that misfortune, whether you know that person or not.

Good morning, Cubao!

I would like to know if this is safe to use for protection and will there be any other use for this? Maraming salamat po. 😊

My reply:

Hello _______!

Yes, those are good items. Wear the bracelet or keep it in your bag. As to the seed, try planting it, if you have a garden.

Back from jalan-jalan at the center. Had money changed, paid our water bill, bought five, novelty ice cube trays, and purchased a copy of Herman Melville's Billy Budd and Other Stories because it seemed like a good, bachelor's read.

Aubrey fixed herself a very late lunch in the kitchen before attending another online class.

Monday, September 21, 2020

Finished painting the cradles black.

Sunday, September 20, 2020

The end for each one of us is truly unpredictable, but I wish that, on my deathbed, I would be able to convince my loved ones:

--not to grieve for me, for I will soon be back in a succeeding lifetime, in the same karmic group, and, I suspect, baptized in the same name;

--not to fear my activities in the afterlife, for I will always be a spirit guide to my loved ones and my loyal students and will be a haunting ghost only to those who did me wrong (I am the latter already);

--convince everyone that I led a happy life, for I was free and I had fun, unlike other men, who were constrained and suppressed, if not oppressed, by convention, tradition, religion, and rules designed by men to control other men;

--let the world know that I'll be with them again as soon as I can and even before they know it.

Lunch at home alone; Angelique took an early lunch to catch a 1:30 PM electronic class and Aubrey is still attending an electronic class upstairs.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sun visits marketplaces thrice a day.

Good night, Cubao!

The secret, sacred geometric of the sun is the square; the secret, sacred geometric of the moon is the circle. That is why the squared circle and the circled square are symbols of completion. They are universal illustrations of yin and yang.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Asked Jerome to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then off to bed with Wilkie Collins.

Your Messenger message:

"I need your guidance and opinion again Sir Tony. When I was still young, my mom and dad left me at home and early in the morning I saw a shadow man walking towards me at sobra natakot po ako. At sa bahay din po namin sa _____ meron ako nakikita mga shadow. And now that I am already 30 years old, it happened again, twice. First nakita ko po siya umaakyat sa hagdan papunta po sa kwarto ko, but I was lying in bed at that time, second noon natulog po ako sa sala namin, I saw it again like, nasa tabi ko po siya nakaluhod like watching me. At isa pa po, natulog ako sa bahay ng kapatid ko, Hindi po ako mapakali at makatulog hanggang umabot sa point na meron tumabi saken at niyakap po ako at hinawakan po tiyan ko at bumulong sa tenga ko, sabi po niya, 'hindi ako papayag na umalis ka sa bahay na eto hanggat di kita nagagalaw.' At bigla na lang po ako nagulat kasi nakita ko mismo kamay niya at ngipin na kulay itim. I don't know if it's the same entity. Isa lang po eto, sa mga weird na nangyayare po saken. Thank you Sir Tony for all your guidance. God bless"

My reply:

Hello _____________!

Believe it or not, my initial reading is that these shadow figures are not supernatural entities, they are extensions of the dark side of yourself. In Jungian terms, they are your Shadow manifesting outside you rather than inside you. It personifies your greatest fears and your most turbulent rages: the fear of being unloved and undesirable, dissatisfaction with your family situation, repressed sexual urges, even the desire to kill.

To make a long story short, you do not know how to relax. Take up therapeutic hobbies such as experimenting with essential oils in lamps, perhaps painting and creative writing, or yoga. You will notice a great difference in your life after a month of doing so.

Yes, it's been the same "entity" all throughout.

Lunch with family.

"Sir Tony, this is one of my most vivid dream in years. Most of them were just a blur but this one’s full of details, sort of. Just sharing this with you because you were in it. Thanks!"

My reply:

Hello ___________!

This is a self-prophetic dream of sorts. You've been yearning for a big breakthrough--one that no other Filipino artist has yet undergone--but your dream ego is unsure as to how to go about it. The scroll is purple because it is the color of royalty.

In the dream, I personify your psyche.

The name you are pondering is neither Nicomideon nor Nicomedes. It is NICOLAIDES. If you did not encounter him in your art studies, buy his timeless book and do the exercises therein faithfully. If you've actually done his exercises before, there may be one that you skipped or that seems to have given you great difficulty. Master that and you'll conquer the hurdles along your journey. At any rate go through the book--for the first time or again--because there is something special there for you.

Your pineal gland throbbed because your third eye is opening wide and is ready to be in the service of your art.

"If so" is the metaphysical question your psyche is asking you: If you achieve the greatest possible success... If you exceed even your expectations of yourself... IF SO, how would this change your life? How would you deal with it? How would you use it to improve this world?

Take the plunge and soar.

Good morning, Cubao!

Also bought a copy of The Moonstone. Years ago I gave my old copy away to Agnes, who purchased the moonstone pendant embellished with a garnet that I bought at the crystal store near the university in North Carolina. Alas, her maid eventually stole it from her.

"Hi, Tony. I've kept these 2 things you gave in college before during our thesis class. The black stone you asked everyone in class to pick one from a box. I'm not sure what it is. Is it volcanic rock? It looks like obsidian. The rosary card, I won as a prize in a pendulum exercise you did. If I remember correctly, you drew a map of the Com Arts classroom and asked everyone to take turns divining it with a pendulum. And then you asked where an item was located in a specific place in the room, by elimination I was the last person to say it was on top of the door or door frame. I think this was the object, and you gave it to me. "

Finished reading The Woman in White last night. A good read. Felt like Dr. Zhivago minus the backdrop of revolution. The ending was quiet and non-spectacular, though, which was a letdown after all those dramatic flourishes, and as though the author simply wanted to tie up all loose ends and get on with other things.

Happy 42nd Birthday to my younger son, Chito!

Your Messenger message:

"Good evening po. Sir Tony, I’d like to ask your thoughts about destiny and fate. Are they the same? Two sides of the coin? Is destiny changeable and fate is unchangeable? More powers to you po. Keep safe."

My reply:

Hello _____!

My answer is potentially disappointing. To me, destiny and fate are mere literary words that are used to make life more poetic. We are what we are and we will be what we will be because of what we are and what we do about it, and that is about the long and the short of it.

Destiny seems to indicate a greatness that is brought about by men with the help of the whim of the gods, such as being destined to be heroes or kings.

Fate seems to be the yin of the yang--we are fated to something, usually tragedy or loss, whether we like it or not, and it is something we cannot escape, like a fresh catfish being fated to be grilled over hot coals.

At any rate, rather than mull over semantics and quirky definitions, simply ask yourself where you are right now and where you want to be.

Know what you want, and go get it.

Two-hour, afternoon nap.

This one was deep and delicious.

A battle rages in the sky, but only a few can see it.

Your Messenger message:

"Hi Sir Tony, good morning. I read your post about taking my troubles to the sun. Do I have to ask my concerns out loud po?

"I am currently working on a work experience sheet, in relation to a work interview tomorrow. Unfortunately, I found myself stumped and at loss as to which contributions would be remarkable enough for me to be considered for the position I am applying for. I am hoping to get this position to provide for my financial needs and to somehow feel that I contribute meaningfully to society through my job. I am yearning for a financial and creative breakthrough, and I was hoping that this could be it. But given that I am not sure about whether or not my contributions to work are remarkable or seen, I feel like I am not needed where I work at today.
"This may be a case of low self esteem or perhaps consequences from previous work-related decisions. I would like to ask for advice po on how I can find or attract the right opportunities that will help me reach my goal. Thank you po."

My reply:

Hello __________!

When addressing spirit guides, always do so aloud, releasing your message to ether, and preferably when you are all alone and no one else can hear you.

Self-worth always comes from within. When composing answers for an application, think in terms of ideals. You then strive toward them. That way you won't be living a pack of lies.

Your problem is best resolved with the aid of a career counselor. The best and the only advice I can give you now is to consult an older psychologist of your own gender.

A very early lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey attending electronic classes upstairs.

Good morning, Cubao!

Take your troubles to the sun and listen well to the advice he gives you.

Good night, Cubao!

Every night lantern is a miniature ballroom.

Brought some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then off to bed with Wilkie Collins.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Nature betrayed office workers again. Just when they thought they'd have a peaceful trip home from work on a Monday afternoon, heavy rains left them stranded.

Went jalan-jalan at the center. Bought two packs tea lights, a light bulb for my study lamp, a big tube of black paint from The Oil Paint Store, vitamins and first-aid kit supplies, toilet paper, washing machine detergent, and two bottles insecticide.

The rain tumbled on Cubao like an ugly matron's lust.

Took a taxi home.

My reply:

Hello _____!

Wherever you decide to move you need to establish good relations with Nature, with the elementals, and with the spirits who were there before you. Otherwise, from their point of view, you are a mere intruder. Land titles and certificates of ownership mean nothing to them--as they mean nothing also to informal settlers.

Your Messenger message:

"Hello, Sir Tony. 3 weeks ago I had read your guildlines for facebook friends. One of the guidelines stated that: write three things that you want to make happen this coming month (September). I immediately got a pen and look for a calendar. I wrote these three things: I will be hired in ________________________, I will be free from minor debts, and new opportunity for my wife. Another week had passed, I got a call from the HR of ______________________ saying that my application has been considered. Another, I already have a money to pay my minor debts. Im still looking forward that new opportunity come will come for my wife. I just want to say thank you for the weekly guidlines that you have been shared in your FB group. Godbless po.:

My reply:

Hello _________!

Congratulations! Such blessings this season always come from the Hungry Ghosts, who reciprocate gestures of kindness and care. Make offerings of compassion to them; at the very least light candles in safe vessels and joss sticks to light their way.

The last day and night of Hungry Ghosts Month this year is September 16.

Lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey still attending their electronic classes upstairs.

Interacting with Friends on Facebook is like having good coffee together.

UnFriended ten, non-interactive persons this morning.

Till next Monday, once again.

Good morning, Cubao!

Your day is always written on the leaves of the trees outside your house.

And now Christine sent me a photo of this painting "Illustration by Eleanor Fortesque Brickdale (1871-1945) for Tempest" saying that it is a portrait of me.

Very few people know that Shakespeare based the character of Prospero in The Tempest on his close friend John Dee, the mage who developed Angelic Magick. I even have a suspicion that the magic ritual that Prospero performs onstage was directed in consultation with John Dee himself.

Sent this photo of Laguna by Juan Feleo (Johnny Delgado) to Laurice, because she's documenting all of Johnny's artworks. Johnny was a protege of Ray Albano of the Visual Arts Department of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The painting hangs above our staircase.

Good night, Cubao!

Listen to the howling of the silver wolf from the depths of the night, while you are in bed.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then off to bed with Wilkie Collins. I'm almost through with The Woman in White. It is more exciting than The Moonstone. I think everyone should read it. The author is a mater at manipulating the reader's mind and emotions.

Monchito sent me this. OMG I can't even recognize myself. It's from the first-ever art exhibit at the School of Design and Arts Building of the College of Saint Benilde, curated by Marian Pastor Roces in 2007. Photo by At Maculangan.

Mike sent me a variety of incense and joss sticks this afternoon.💝

I super like!

I'm up to 4,996 Friends again but tomorrow, Monday, I'll unFriend ten non-interactive Friends as usual.

Incidentally, I don't re-admit persons who unFriended me in the past, and I remember who all of them are.

Good morning, Cubao!

Exotic recipes for food have always been introduced to humans by elementals since the beginning of time.

Good night, Cubao!

Gnomes and fairies carefully plan their special weekends.

Dinner at home alone; Aubrey and Angelique took substantial snacks earlier.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again; an evening shower, and then off to bed with Willkie Collins.

An afternoon with film director Laurice Guillen in her Beverly Hills-type home in Horseshoe Village. I hadn't seen her since Eric Morris did workshops for the Actors Workshop Foundation years ago.

Back from a pre-production meeting with director Laurice Guillen and a Zoom meeting with Tanghalang Pilipino's Antonette Go at Horseshoe Village.

It was nice to see Laurice again after 30 years.

Angelique came down to lunch in the dining room.

An early lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey still resting upstairs.

A cup of Ma-ay's Cotabato black coffee. This is possibly the strongest black coffee I've ever had in my life.

I like the Cotabato brown coffee too, which is excellent, robust coffee. A lady's coffee, if I may say so. That one's for guests. The black one's for ME!

Your Messenger message:

"Good day!

"I've been your fan. I have several Cubao books I've used to read til now. I really enjoy and appreciate your thoughts thru 'weekly reminders', truly, your intellectual level is beyond normal.
"I wanna hear your wisdom and opinion about ' homosexuality and what advice can you give to gays serving their church? Is spiritual life of gays aligned with the moral conviction set by churches? Thank you."

My reply:

Hello _____________!

Gender has never been a problem to me and I sometimes believe that there is too much fuss is about it, perhaps because many people tend to be melodramatic. On other planets there are varieties of genders--on some there is only one. On Earth, unfortunately, gender is used by leaders, including religious leaders, to wield power over others.

It is perfectly all right to be yourself and to be true to yourself--I certainly have been all these years and I'm quite happy. As to discrimination, it will continue to exist for the shallowest reasons, not only with regard to race and gender and economic status and sophistication but also for the most trivial things such as clothing and mispronunciation.

Spiritual life is never dictated by any church. It is a personal connection between God and the self, and it is the only connection that will matter on your deathbed. You may of course continue to serve your church if you wish. The best thing that can be said about homosexuality in that context is that Jesus said NOTHING about homosexuality. It was Paul of Tarsus who did. So, live your life as a Christian, not as a Paulinian.

While doing so, also live your life NOT WITH PRIDE BUT WITH HUMILITY. It is all right to be gay, but you don't have to scream it out to the world and flaunt it in the streets.

It turns off other genders and is perceived as inconsiderate.

Good morning, Cubao!

Sylphs love riding on weather vanes and windsocks.

Your Messenger message:

"Dear sir tony, may I please request for an introduction or contact details to your group the spirit questors? I just want to remove my psychic ability. Nahihirpan na po tlaga ako. Even went to a priest. He removed my 3rd eye but i can still hear them sir. My healing priest is gifted and can actually sense the beings with me. Kaya lang, ayun nga po. They still connect with me. Sa kabila ng protection seals na inilagay ni fr. sa akin. Slamat po, sir tony. Please help me po at pasensya na po kayo sa pangungulit ko sa inyo re my problem. Muli, salamat po."

My reply:

Hello ________!

The third eye can be closed at will, in pretty much the same way that you close your physical eyes in order not to see. It is not like a toothache for which you need a dentist.

I advised you before to consult a PSYCHOLOGIST of YOUR OWN GENDER. Please do so.

Your Messenger Message:

"Buenas noches, Tony!

"I saw three pretty women in my dream, all wearing white. They didnt intend to stay long with me so i imagined them (in my dream) walking away, but they'd inevitably step on fuschia-colored water with gel-like consistency.

"After that i saw a huge image of Sto. Niño in emerald green dress and wearing a crown. (This wasnt part of the earlier dream.)

"What do these mean."

My reply:

Hello ___________!

The three women are the Three Graces or the three talents that are in your current lifetime. It is possible that you have been thinking of turning your back on them as an act of self-effacement or supreme humility. You remain uncertain, though, for you subconsciously wish them to get bogged down while walking away from you. Fuschia is the color of joy.

The image of the Santo Nino represents innocence and enlightenment--your religion in disguise. In this second dream the direction you choose to be moving toward appears resplendent. It is in emerald green, the color of healing and also of wealth, and wears a crown.

On another level, the dreams can indicate your being torn between the pagan and the non-pagan. Everything, of course, is metaphorical.
