As a general rule light three joss sticks together at your altar to honor the gods and goddesses, your ancestors, and/or your kuman thong.

If only two sticks light up, do not re-light the unlit stick. Go with the two sticks. It means that a relative, deceased or living, needs expiation, prayers, or spiritual strength.

If only one stick lights up, do not re-light the unlit sticks. Go with the one stick. You are entitled to make a special wish that the spirits will do their best to grant and make reality.
