Quite disappointed that Eleana Gabunada got eliminated from _Asia's Got Talent_, but what did everyone expect? People do NOT vote for artists who go Broadway, who go classical, who go operatic, who sing in Italian or some other foreign language, who dance ballet, and the like. People do NOT vote for art, they want to be ENTERTAINED. When it comes to actual voting, art is perceived as hoity-toity.
That should be a lesson for future Filipino contestants.
On the other extreme, contestants should also NOT inform the audience how poor they are, how much they've been having the raw deal in life, how tragic their family situations are, how they would very much like to reach their elusive dreams, and the like. It is, to me, distasteful.
After all, when I've written a novel or finished a painting, do I tell anyone how much I suffered in the process? (Not that I ever did, but you get the drift.)
