A late lunch at home alone.

Replenished our soda supply.

It's become quite chilly. Rather than wear one of my jackets, though, I'm wearing the full-length, black, Islamic robe that CatCat and her boyfriend brought me from Lebanon some two years ago. It has black embroidery along its pocket edge and front opening, and makes me look like The Hermit in the Rider-Waite deck.

Angelique and Jazz are preparing a late breakfast of pancakes in the kitchen.

Bought a ream of cigarettes at D.'s store.

Lit palo santo and copal joss sticks in incense burners at the three altars on our ground floor.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

The children and the pets curl up in bed while the heads of household keep watch over them.

I can never find mustard and pickles in atchay supermarkets, possible because atchays don't even know what mustard and pickles are.

Overcast skies above Cubao, and a steady drizzle.

Signal Number Three in Occidental Mindoro, as reported by my younger son Chito.

Lit another pair of candles on our family altar and columbary.

Good morning, Cubao!

Without the sun, the seas would rise and submerge all traces of land.

Good night, Cubao!

Your bedroom is the best place to hide away from the night.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then spending some time with Patty Mayo and Bounty Hunter D.

Lit palo santo and copal joss sticks in the incense burners at three altars on the ground floor.

A bedtime snack.

Our kitchen is well-stocked since Angelique and Jazz did major groceries today.

Checked whether M.'s cafe is well-stocked for a stormy weekend; it is.

Lit tea lights in lanterns and candleholders in our foyer for Halloween.

Halloween dinner with Angelique, Aubrey, and Jazz.

At midnight the veil between the realm of the living and the realm of the spirits will be lifted.

Such dreams occur when the dreamer has been dishonest about himself to himself and to others.

Your Messenger message:

"Hi Sir Tony. Thank you for adding me in your friends list. I met you many years ago when my sister was still part of the Quest and I remember how you tried to help our brother.

"Thank you for sharing your time and expertise. I was very young then and I wasn't really included in the discussions but somehow I think those experiences helped me process unexplainable things in a way, and helped me adjust well into adulthood. Please stay safe."

My reply:

Hello ______!

Thank you for your kind words.

Your Messenger message:

"Sir Tony good afternoon I need ur advise or opinion rather .. This picture was taken. 2months ago in our computer shop in ______________ _________.. But for now close po ito due to pandemic.. I'm just wondering anu po image nahagip ng camera ng cousin q po.. Thank u very much in advance

"Kinikilabutan po aq..Lakas loob po aq isend xau un picture..Thank u po.."

My reply:

Hello ___________!

There is NOTHING in both of the photos you sent me. Never trust swiped, defocused, or dimly lighted shots--all of those are sure to contain images that you will tend to read like Rorschach inkblots. That phenomenon of perception is called anamorphosis.

I have seen many authentic photos with spirits in them and, in those photos, the spirits were clear and unmistakable. After all, why should spirits choose to manifest in blurred photos when they could very well manifest in sharp ones?

Your Messenger message:

"Good Morning Sir Tony. I just need your opinion. I often see 911 everywhere. In the clock, house number, and everywhere. And everytime I see it I feel something weird. Is my spirit guide wants something to convey, is their any significance of this number or just coincidence? I search about the meaning of this number pero magkaiba iba sila ng meaning. Thank you"

My reply:

Hello _____!

Always add up the digits of recurring numbers. In this case 9 + 1 + 1 = 11 = 2. Eleven and two are the numbers of the joyous twins. You are being called upon to celebrate a special occasion, whatever that is.

Lunch at home alone.

Lit another pair of candles on our family altar and columbary.

Angelique and Jazz are off to the center to have Keiko Kashigawa groomed, do major groceries, and buy lunch food.

Good morning, Cubao!

Good night, Cubao!

Dinner at home with Angelique.

Asked Neil to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then spending some time with Patty Mayo and Bounty Hunter D. Especially love the Cheaters and the Fraud Investigations.

Woke up at 12:00 noon today and am having only half a day of daylight.

A food delivery arrived from one of Aubrey's classmates.

Your Messenger message:

"Sir Tony, good morning! I wanted to ask you about this watchtower in ___________, ___________ because I experienced something supernatural while my friend, A., and I were inside it. As I was taking photos of the interior of the watchtower, I saw through my cellphone an orb of light pass before us. It looked and floated like a bubble before it disappeared in the shadows. I looked at A., who said nothing. Apparently, he had not seen the orb. I checked the sources of light inside the watchtower both with my naked eyes and my cellphone's camera to make sure that it was not an optical illusion or my imagination. When I could not come up with a plausible explanation, I felt a heaviness in the air, as if something unseen was enveloping me. I asked A. to step out of the watchtower with me. I did not have the guts to tell him about what I saw inside the watchtower. Sadly, I was not able to capture the orb with my cellphone camera. Eventually, we went back inside the watchtower, but I never saw the orb of light again. Did I experience something supernatural then, or was it just an optical illusion? Thank you in advance!"

My reply:

Hello ________!

First of all, there are orbs everywhere, especially where there are elementals. They act up and become visible whenever they are disturbed. Note, for example, that whenever a parade with drums marches down the street and you take photos of the trees, the photos will show up orbs all over the place.

I am certain that you and A. did something to disturb the elementals in the watchtower. You must have been conditioned by all those videos of adventurous persons who visit unusual places and immediately anticipate something horrific to happen there.

Just ignore the incident, since that watchtower isn't a place you would go to everyday. And remember that, wherever you go, you need to show respect not only to the people there but also to the spirits in that place.

Lit two more candles on our family altar and columbary.

The roof of your house represents your father, who provides security; the light inside your house represents your  mother, whose love shines through all the windows from within.

More Treats From My Spiritual Son F.

Unexpected goodies came with the Gandalf The Gray hat: a dozen B/W publicity stills from Enter The Dragon, a TinTin and Snowy maquette from The Crab With The Golden Claws, a Slytherin journal, a Bruce Lee watch, and Harry Potter keychains!

(Should I be bemused as to why he perceives me as being of Slytherin House?)

My spiritual son F. ordered this Gandalf The Gray hat for me, and it arrived in time for Halloween. It has a head size adjustment strap and a secret pocket to put money--or other stuff--in.

Yes, tomorrow the neighbors will see Gandalf The Gray walk up the street.

The bedsheet in the background is from Ubud, Bali. This fabric is originally used to venerate tree spirits and is wrapped round the trunks of sacred trees.

October 29, 2020: Tuob

Originally practiced by the Native North Americans and the shamans of Siberia, the tuob is the supernatural equivalent of the lie detector test. It causes immediate relief to the afflicted--and has no effect at all on persons who are merely pretending to be ill.

Many variations of this treatment have evolved over the years.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Jazz.

Jay's birthday. M. sent over two serving dishes of carbonara.

Jay, the cafe crew, and their relatives and friends are having a drinking session in Neil's unit, on the compound.

It was bright and sunny this morning.

Lunch at home alone; grandchildren still resting upstairs. Then Aubrey came down to have lunch in the dining room.

Neil and I spent the afternoon cleaning the kitchen floor, the rear passage, and the laundry room.

Now Aubrey is off to visit Roi.

Your Messenger message:

"Good evening Sir Tony. I would just like to thank you for all the guidance and learnings.

"I can still clearly remember the first time I met you around 1998 inside Ateneo campus. You told me something like I can be your daughter. You also said I looked like somebody from your family. I was very grateful back then when you invited me to attend and observe your psychology class at St. Scholastica's College."

My reply:

Hello __________!

Yes, I remember, and you are most welcome for everything.

Teaching was most stressful to me. I had to be well-dressed all the time, I had to juggle my time between that and my full-time job, I was writing plays and attending rehearsals, I was writing and proofreading books, and I had to be attending to my family. I now intend to be relaxed and happy through the rest of my life.

Your Messenger message:

"Hi sir Tony, good evening. I have been meaning to ask you about my recent experiences seeing mermen/mermaids.

"I think it started about 2 weeks ago wherein I had a dream where I visited you and asked you about your Halloween costume. You jokingly replied in your usual manner 'Ay, you will drown!' then you showed me it was that of a merman. After which I realized I was reminded of the Bagting ng Dagat - whose talisman flashed for a moment after my realization. "A few nights after I had another dream, this time at a coastal town. And the part I remember is that I was to bury in sand a figure of a merman in a bottle. I even dropped the figure and had to go back for it. After which they became 2; one was inside the bottle, the other I was holding on top of it. "Days after that, I’ve also been seeing merman or mermaid figures on some shows that I watch or on my Facebook feed. "I also realized after looking through my dream journal that I have been having many dreams where water is involved. And usually I dive in, or wade through it. "Thank you for your time sir. ☺️

"Also, I would like to ask if I could visit you on Halloween? 🙂"

My reply:

Hello __________!

The first thing that came into my mind was a difference in thinking or an altercation between son and mother. Remember that the goddess of the sea had an issue with the god of iron. Is there some disagreement at present between you and your mother?

Second, L. himself has been having frequent spiritual encounters with Ma Tzu, the Tao goddess of seafarers and the sea. It is also possible, then, that the goddess of the sea is standing up to be recognized and propitiated.

Your dream set in a coastal town indicates to me an urge or attraction that you want to get rid of but cannot. Try to determine what that is.

As to your other dreams, remember that water in dreams signifies emotions. So do Neptune and the Kraken, who symbolize turbulent emotions and the need for some kind of sacrifice, i.e. something that you may need to give up at this time in your life.

On a more literal level, there will be more typhoons coming in through the end of the year, and danger may come from high storm surges.

Yes, you may visit me on Halloween at 2:00 PM. We can have sisig at M.'s cafe if it is available then. I won't be in costume, though. I'll be in Spandex shorts. Or maybe that is my costume.

A cozy and restful night for everyone, especially now that Angelique is done with her midterms.

Your Messenger message:

"Sir Tony I had a very vivid dream last night. In my dream, suddenly there was a deluge and my entire surroundings were flooded.. and I was swimming to safety. Then i saw a bayawak swimming beside me.. I tried to swim away but I wasn't really going anywhere. Later on I saw a sawa swimming in the water with us. First it swam away.. and then it was being swept closer to me. So close that its head was near my nose already. I was anticipating it to bite but it wasn't biting me. Then the bayawak was swimming right beside us. I was also at striking distance but it didn't bite as well. My dream ended with the Sawa and the Bayawak terribly close to me in the water.

"What could this possibly mean sir Tony? Is this an omen?"

My reply:

Hello _________!

Your dream was triggered by Typhoon Quinta and your anxiety, whether mild or severe, regarding your safety.

The bayawak and the sawa are your dark, sexual impulses. Both are of the element fire and are also attempting to survive the flood, which, in this dream, represents your pent-up emotions. You have been holding back frustrations, regrets, failures, disappointments, and anger at missed opportunities--all of which you are deliberately repressing while showing to others that you are cool and unaffected. You need a safety valve or an outlet that will help you get rid of all that; otherwise the dream will recur in varying scenarios.

That your sexual impulses are represented by two different fire creatures suggests to me the existence of some kind of double standard in your life. Only you, of course, will know what this means.

Organized the kitchen some more.

Passed on stuff that are better off in the cafe to M.

Also threw out a lot of stuff.

Still unFriending non-interactive Friends.

Now down to 4,960 from 5,000.

Considering keeping only 1,000 before the year is over.

A rich man usually will not bother to care whether he has friends or not. Neither will he bother to go out of his way to develop friendships with others.

Do not make the mistake of making psychism, spiritualism, magic, and/or alternative healing your full-time occupation/s. None of those are real careers and only lead down a dead-end road, at the very bottom of which is your hovel called Poverty.

If, however, you are fine with being poor, then by all means feel free to do so. You will find that neither your friends who like being entertained by you nor your enemies will stop you.

Lit another pair of candles on our family altar and columbary.

A cup of sweet lemongrass tea.

This year the only semblance of our celebration of Halloween month is the fiberglass statue of Witch Glenda at our side porch entrance. I didn't take out any of our fabulous lamps and decor from Sydney. Neither did I wear any of the 31 Halloween-month T-shirts that are kept in a small suitcase, which I used to wear in rotation every day in the month of October. I have been wearing my Halloween hats though.

Lunch at home alone; Angelique studying for her last midterm exam this evening and Aubrey attending an online class.

Your Messenger message:

"good morning sir Tony. i reread your post last weekend and saw the advise to relate to your power animal. I often remember with great fondness, and I have told my kids the story of how I learned what my power animal was in your class.

🙂

"we had another meditation exercise and you asked us to go inside a dark cave. while inside, you asked us to stop and wait for our power animal to appear. to my surprise, suddenly the cave became brighter and revealed a large body of water. out of the water rose a _________________. when I shared this in class, everyone was laughing and could not believe it, but you said, no, that's fine, that's a fantastic power animal.

"i was a poor kid in college, living on meager allowances from my poor parents, so I made myself a pact to meet a _________________ once I could afford it. 20+ years later, I still have not had the chance to meet one in person. only on TV. it makes me sad, but also inspires me, as I have read a lot about how _______________s are such fantastic creatures. to have one as my power animal makes me feel super blessed and lucky.

"so my question is this, what advise would you give to me in terms of harnessing more fully the power of my power animal? there is a little guilt inside me that I have somehow "forgotten" my _______________s as it has now been 20+ years, though I'm pretty sure _______________s will understand I have had to set the needs of my growing family first -- it's not very cheap to go meet a dolphin hahaha. but I'm very anxious to meet one, and to, as you said, "relate more" to my power animal. all the best and have a great day ahead po!"

My reply:

Hello _______!

It is not necessary to physically be in the presence of a particular animal that represents your power animal, for every power animal is the essence or spirit of whichever animals it represents. It stands for ALL animals of that species in this world.

To stabilize your connection with your power animal, keep an image, artwork, or figurine of your power animal in your room. If it is a fantasy animal, simply make a painting or sculpture of it or create a collage using cut-outs from different photos.

My reply:

Hello ____!

The Filipino-Chinese community revere Ma Tzu and even hold their annual raffle to determine who keeps her image for a year--a very expensive affair. I used to have an altar statuette of her. I believe that she is syncretized as Yemaya, since she is patroness of seafarers and the sea. I even recall that, years ago, when a very strong typhoon was raging in Luzon and was en route to Taiwan, you said that the typhoon would abate before hitting Taiwan because Ma Tzu is the patroness of Taiwan.

The restaurant we wanted to go to was shut also, and ________’s face shield flew off his face and went across the street. A light bulb also went out, which was recently replaced. Mom was just concerned and wanted to ask what we can do to remove the negative energy"

Spent the entire afternoon and early evening with W. at Maryhill School of Theology. We successfully installed six paintings. Father Rene assigned two personnel to work overtime to assist us, it being a Saturday. Father Richard served us refreshments afterward.

I love caterers who go out of their way to feed our servants and compound security guards. I then go out of my way to pay them extra and give their waiters substantial tips. As for caterers who do not do so, I never hire them again. I find that they think too highly of themselves and seem to be unable to conceive that, as far as I am concerned, they are really merely a convenient food service at the mercy of clients who couldn't care less whether they have culinary degrees or Michelin stars or not.

5:00 PM. Alone at last on the ground floor. Aubrey is still at Roi's, Angelique is taking her online midterms upstairs, and Neil has finished up work in the dining room and the living room.

Bought a serving of sisig at a hawker's stand and took that with rice, a pat of mayonnaise, and soda.

It is always the fundamentalist who is most prone to suicidal tendencies.

Angelique came down to lunch in the dining room. She is now continuing her review for her midterm exams at 5:00 PM this evening.

Aubrey left in a Grab car to visit Roi with a gift and a strawberry shortcake on his birthday.

Did minor groceries at the neighborhood grocery.

Hired Neil to clean our living room and dining room floors.

An early lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey still attending online classes.

Monday, Monday

Cut down my Friends List from 5,000 to 4,982.

It is easy to unFriend non-interactive Friends whom I never actually met in my life.

However, it is easier and even more justifiable to unFriend non-interactive Friends who are my friends and acquaintances in real life.

Good morning, Cubao!

The sun glows in the core of every precious stone.

Good night, Cubao!

Stray cats in the neighborhood will always own the night.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then spending some time with Bounty Hunter D and the Fraud Investigations.

Still with Benito Cereno.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Swung by the neighborhood grocery.

Lennoel and Neil rewrapped RESURGET MARIA this afternoon. Six paintings are now ready for pick-up, delivery, and installation at Maryhill School of Theology, but I still need to wait for W. to produce 36 brackets to screw on walls.

Lunch at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

The drizzle has stopped.

A languid Sunday afternoon begins.

Two deliveries arrived.

One-hour, morning nap.

Replenished our soda supply.

An early lunch at home alone; Angelique and Aubrey still resting upstairs.

Good morning, Cubao!

Where there is a gnome neighborhood, there is buried treasure.

Drizzly dawn in Cubao.

Went out under an umbrella. Bought myself a big breakfast at a hawker's stand but managed to consume only half of everything inside our kitchen.

Went back to my bedroom and tried to go back to sleep. It was still quite dark outside. Didn't turn the AC or the fan on, and so a lot of atmospheric sounds came in through my windows. Below the sounds was the barely audible, subliminal, chanting of a hymn by a male chorus. I thought that it was coming either from a religious radio or TV program two units away, then wondered whether it was from the Christian chapel about ten houses down the street, it being a Sunday, and that, by some fluke of energy, the music traveled through the narrow interstices between neighboring firewalls, through our rear passage, and into one of my bedroom windows. But, there were several things strange about what was being sung: I had never heard that particular melody before, it was comprised of only four notes in variation, and it was non-stop, like the rondalla music I always hear whenever there is a fairy celebration in my sister's garden or in our dragon tree. I closed my eyes and followed the source of the chanting, which led me to the steel parapet encircling our stainless steel water tank two levels above. Sure enough, male fairies were standing on the parapet and chanting fervently either to the rising sun or to the sky.

I learned two things I hadn't previously known:

--only male fairies praise the Creator/Nature/the sun/the sky and female fairies do not do so.
--when chanting hymns, male fairies are garbed in flowing, white robes, and I could not help but wonder whether they are often mistaken for angels.

Should I wake up extra early next Sunday I hope to hear and witness the same all over again.

No, this wasn't a dream.

Your Messenger message:

"Hi pai. Good morning. I am sorry to bother you. This may seem trivial butbit is creating some problems now. 2 weeks ago i purchased some vintage/antique brass cauldron and vase on line. I was looking for a container to use as oil lamp in my newly erected altar. The items arrived 2 weeks ago. And i pkaced the items on quarantine. I started to have hearing loss in my left ear 2 weeks ago. As a ________ i knew it was probably a dysfunction ib the eustachian tube. Saw ny ENT friend and he concurred. At the back of my mind. There is a nagging whisper to get rid of the items. But of course. I did not listen. The hearing improved. I unpacked the items. Smudged it sage. And even anointed it or placed some drops of exorcised oil. I have a creepy sensation whenever i peek inside one of the i cense burners. 2 days ago i used it as an oil lamp. And while reciting the breviary and rosary. I keep feeling a tingling sensation at the back of my head and my nape area. I also kept on looking back since i am facing a different altar. I had this nagging feeling that something is not gonna be right. Woke up at around 3 to 4 am feeling feverish. But my temperature was ok. Yesterday. I fixed my pillow and found out that the exorcism cross of St Benedict and St Anthony that i keep under ny pillow is turned uoside down. Last night the dullness in hearing returned and i woke up with a stye in the left eye. I also begin to have anxiety. Which i never had before. Alas. What else to think but the connection with the items and the things that is happening. Things are better when i light joss sticks in my altars. I would like to ask for your guidance pai. I am planning to disoose the items. By the way. The vase i use had an engraving of mv princess something so i assumed it used to be a decor in a ship. Thank you pai.

"And i use to buy vintage items anf sacramentals like rosaries crucifixes. But this is the first time these things happened.

"Though sometime i feel this is Gods way of making me reakize that i dont listen And see the signs that I should practice the craft to help people..."

"Nust hooe to get well soon pai. Hearing is bad. Eyelid swollen. But minimal.

"Pai here the picture."

My reply:

Hello _______!

When items appear to be haunted, it is because they were stolen and then sold off to someone else, if not to a series of buyers. It would be difficult, of course, to even attempt to trace the original owners; two of the items even seem to have been taken from a domestic temple in Binondo.

You do not have to dispose of the items. They are simply telling you that you've been intending to use them the wrong way, and that there is another way to use them while they are in your hands.

Here is what you should do:

1) Clean and polish the items.

2) Fill the vase 3/4 to the brim with salt water. (Since sea water is not easy to obtain from your location, tap water mixed with rock salt will do.)

3) Fill the coal burner 3/4 to the brim with dark wine.

4) Fill the incense burner 3/4 to the brim with fresh milk or extra virgin coconut oil.

Scry on the surfaces of all three in rotation as though they were crystal balls. You will receive images and messages. I AM SURE OF IT. Each vessel will impart a different type of communication.

You may keep all three if you feel that you have a need for all three.

I wish I could go back to the dream I had two nights ago, which I woke up from and forgotten other than that I was traveling with three young men I'd never seen before. I want to look at their faces again and see if I actually met them at some point in the near future.

Good night, Cubao!

House mice use toothpaste-tube caps as drinking cups.

Asked Lennoel to bring some food over to M.'s cafe staff.

Night chores.

Night drizzle in Cubao.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then spending some time with Bounty Hunter D and the Cheaters.

Also still reading "Benito Cereno", which is a very LONG short story.

Dinner at home with Angelique and Aubrey.

Night falls under a dry sky in Cubao, and the halogen lamps on our street come on again. There is something sad about halogen lamps, for they are the color of a dying sunset, and they always remind me of myself before I retired, trudging home with other weary workers eager to come home to dinner and a night of rest.

Paid the flower vendor to clean our foyer, computer-area, and studio floors the way I myself clean them and the way I want them cleaned: on my knees and with soap and water, monk-style. The flower man is 64, five years younger than I am, but he needs the money very badly.

Bought two, battery-operated toy cars running on lower tracks, slopes, upper tracks, and through a bridge and had nowhere to place it but in the ground-floor toilet and bathroom. I like placing motorized toys and toys that jingle and jangle in the bathroom. The toy cars on the tracks remind me of the hotel room I stayed in when I was in Brisbane under the auspices of the Australian Embassy. The windows from the bedroom and bathroom looked out on a highway, and I used to sit and watch the vehicles on the highway and the pedestrians on the pavement.

The number of existing artists does not comprise an art industry. It is the number of REGULAR AND PERMANENT JOBS WITH LIFETIME ANNUITY for artists that determines whether there is an art industry or not.

Angelique and Aubrey now brew their own coffee and lace it with vanilla and caramel.

An early lunch at home alone, then Angelique came down to take lunch in the dining room after attending an online lecture; Aubrey still attending online classes upstairs.

Good morning, Cubao!

Your home is your treasure chest, and your family members are the jewels within.

Good night, Cubao!

M. sent me some puso ng na saging ukoy that Jay cooked. Interesting concoction.

Night chores.

My favorite time of the day has come again: an evening shower, and then spending some time with Bounty Hunter D and the Cheaters.

Also currently reading Herman Melville's "Benito Cereno" which is becoming, as I turn the pages, as grotesque as the short stories of Paul Bowles..

Half of October is over.

I should make a start on Paintings #19 and #20 very soon.

The Parolan Christmas Bazaar on the West End parking lot of Araneta Center is open once again. Can't wait to buy Vigan empanada, which I have learned to enjoy more than Christmas ham, and other goodies.

Back from jalan-jalan at the center. Changed money for the weekend, though our water bill hasn't arrived yet. Most of the shops that'd been closed over the past seven months are now open again.

Did something I haven't done for the longest time: had a mushroom and sausage omelette with cinnamon toast and iced tea at the Cubao Leaky Cauldron. According to the cashier it looks like they won't be producing 2021 planners.

There is one, enjoyable way to find out how intelligent and intelligently responsive other people are, and that is to pretend to be very stupid and then wait and see what they will say and do.

An early lunch at home alone, then Angelique came down to lunch in the dining room.

Going jalan-jalan to change money in a while.
